Product Name:Magnesium Carbonate
CAS code:13717-00-5
Aliases:no
English name:Magnesium carbonate
definition:
White granular powder. It decomposes at 350°C and loses carbon dioxide at 900°C. Slightly soluble in cold water, slowly soluble in acid. Its trihydrate is a colorless needle-like crystal with a melting point of 165°C and a relative density of 1.850. The pentahydrate is a white monoclinic crystal with a relative density of 1.73, which is decomposed by heating in the air. Carbon dioxide can be added into the magnesium salt aqueous solution while sodium carbonate is added to obtain a hydrate. The latter can be dried below 50°C to obtain anhydrous.
Physical and chemical properties:
1. Properties: white granular powder, odorless and tasteless.
2. Solubility: insoluble in water or ethanol.
3. Ksp precipitation equilibrium constant pKsp: 5.17
Application fields: used to make fireproof coatings, printing inks, pottery, glass, cosmetics, medicine, etc.
